Since 1986, the Penn Cove Mussel Festival has been a tasty way to kick off Whidbey Island’s festival season and wrap up our blustery island winter. It has given us an opportunity to give back to our community in a big way.

Who . . .

Every year Penn Cove Shellfish hosts a Mussel, Music and Beer Garden as a fundraiser for two local causes - The Boys & Girls Club of Coupeville, and the Coupeville High School Larry Engel Memorial STEM Scholarship. With the combined efforts of our generous sponsors, and proceeds from the tent, we were able to contribute over $35,000 in 2019.

Why . . .

We work hard every year to donate to the Boys and Girls Club in order to positively contribute to our community and to the families that use the program. They provide a safe place for children to go after school and host events that benefit our society. As a company in a rural town, our employees have utilized this organization for their own children and speak praises of the environment which they provide. We want to return the favor and help as much as possible so that the programs continue to thrive, as we have confidence in the organization to help young children learn and grow together as a member of our community.

We also provide an opportunity to the students of Coupeville High School to further their education through our Larry Engel Memorial STEM Scholarship. Mr. Engel taught Biological Sciences in Coupeville for many years. He inspired students that were interested in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics including the owners of Penn Cove Shellfish! He motivated them to understand the importance and essentials of a lifelong career, particularly in the STEM fields. Penn Cove encompasses the fundamentals of this scholarship as a company within the realm of science and aquaculture. We find it in our top priorities to both honor him and help students achieve their dreams and goals by supporting the financial obligation of a STEM education in college.

Make sure you pop in to the Penn Cove Shellfish Tent located on Main Street for a bowl of steaming hot mussels, a pint of beer and some great music to dance to!
