Where it all began
Penn Cove Shellfish grows, harvests, and packages delicious Penn Cove mussels for shellfish lovers to enjoy. We start our production out on our farm, located in Penn Cove on Whidbey Island. Our mussels are all natural set, meaning that we simply provide our mussels with an ideal place to grow and thrive. Mussel farming provides enhanced habitat and ecosystem services for many species and adds to the overall health of the marine environment.
Most days, one of our custom mussel harvesting vessels can be seen alongside our mussel rafts in Penn Cove. Each of the mussel rafts support a large amount of mussel lines and can yield over 50 pounds of mussels on each line. Our mussels take about 13-15 months to reach a harvestable size, so there's an ongoing rotation among the rafts between juvenile mussels and those ready to harvest, allowing year-round mussel production and peak mussel quality.
