Natural Seeding of Mussels
In Spring we take advantage of the natural spawning cycle of mussels in Penn Cove by planting our lines along the rafts on our Penn Cove mussel farm. Our farm team will suspend and attach coiled lines at the top three feet of the water. Naturally, mussel spat will attach onto these same lines and they will thrive in the rich waters of Penn Cove.
Once the mussels have grown to about 10 millimeters in size, we’ll open up the coils and drop them into the downward position on the line. From here, our Penn Cove mussels will continue to thrive in some of the best growing conditions the West Coast has to offer.
