Our Manila Clams
Manila clams are a shellfish species farmed along the West Coast and have a unique shell pattern appearance. Our manila clams are raised on the sandy coastline of Samish Bay, Washington. These on-bottom grown bivalves are juicy and plump with natural salt and brine flavors influenced by its growing conditions.
Manila Clam Seed
Our Manila clams start their journey at our hatchery, where we grow seed each year. Clam larvae will grow from a single seed and will move from side to side using its foot.
The Nursery
Once our clams have reached a sufficient size, they’ll be taken to our nursery where they will thrive off of the rich nutrients within our floating upwelling system. The upwellers will push rich algae waters through the juvenile clams, providing them a continuous source of food which helps them grow strong.
Manila Clam Farming
After our clams have grown to about a fingernail in size, they will be planted on our Samish Bay clam farm. Throughout their life cycle, our manila clams will thrive in the bay, where they will live until they have reached a harvestable size. Which can take 2-3 years.
Manila Clam Harvesting
Our clams will be dug, graded, and bagged, then brought to our Penn Cove wet storage system for a reconditioning process. By holding our clams here, it naturally helps to remove any sand excess that the clam may have absorbed in its natural habitat.
